Several years ago I weighed 173 lbs. and got down to 143 lbs. by drinking a lot water and giving up soda. Whenever I get a chance, I exercise by using Yourself Fitness on the PS2. :)

A few years ago I had good luck losing weight using the South Beach Diet, I don't agree w/ everything they say (I firmly believe that artificial sweeteners are a very bad thing!) but overall, it helps to shift to a healthier lifestyle of whole grains & more vegetables & such.

The best advice I can give is get active any way you can: walking, join a class, DVD from the library. Also, the more muscle you gain, the more calories you burn! So, go buy some hand weights! Carbs are my downfall, so I try to eat healthy carbs and stay away from the processed junk. Portion size is very important too!

Good luck!

I have been counting my calories with a program my husband made. It works, but only when I use it!

Changing your lifestyle is the best way to loose and keep weight off. It may sound extreme, but dropping the ammount of dairy, meat, etc that we ate, upping the fresh fruits and veggies and whole grain type foods, getting exercise, fresh air, drinking plenty of good, pure water, having a schedule (eating at regular times- and less at night!) has done the world. I have some neat books on that, but check out this site too! http://www.drmcdougall.com/

Eating several small meals each day & walking. Oh & cutting down on pop.

Yeah, I'm not there, but when I did lose weight once it was through drinking water and writing down EVERYTHING I ate. I also had to try to fit in all the food groups. But watching myself put down that I ate 6 cookies was killer, so I would refrain!

I eat bread that is high in fiber. If I indulge in a bagel or something like that, I cute out the middle third--33% fewer calories right there. You can save it for a snack or feed it to the birds.

I also control my weight by avoiding all processed foods.

I credit my weight loss to two things. I lost an additional 20 pounds after I lost the baby weight. Those two things were breastfeeding and birth control. I know! But I have been able to maintain it by cooking at home, watching portions, eating until I feel full (and not a bite more) and working out 3 days a week. I love Jazzercise1

I was loosing weight before I got pregnant - I did Special K for breakfast and some lunches, ate more fruit, no pop, and worked out by walking/running/biking a little each day...

I used sparkpeople.com to track what I ate, my exercise, and read articles on getting healthy. I used them after my last baby and lost the baby weight plus another 5-10lbs. It's a great site and free.

not on purpose but I lost 20 lbs when I had to remove all soy, dairy and nuts from my diet (My child I was nursing was allergic). What really caused the weight loss was I could not eat almost any convience foods (not even bread), I had to make almost everything myself and it was almost immpossible to eat out.

Frankly I lost weight by getting pregnant-I have no appetite! :)

Very cute!
I recommend sparkpeople.com - it's a great help. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months.

Audra Marie said...

Sparkpeople is wonderful motivation. I'm nursing and when I combine that with cutting out sugar (makes me moody, lazy and foggy), I drop the weight.

Make small changes, but keep making the changes into healthier eating and being more and more active. It will help.

I drink lots of water. When I'm on the computer I fill up a pitcher of ice and water (more ice than water) and keep it on a plastic plate (so it doesn't leave condensation rings on my desk). Whenever I get thirsty I pour myself a glass. Since the water is right there and nice and cold, it helps fight the temptation to get up and grab a soda from the fridge. I drink almost a whole pitcher every day!

Honestly, I lost weight by getting pregnant.

I will likely weigh less after I have this baby than I did before I got pregnant.

Probably not the kind of suggestion you're looking for, huh?

I have only lost three pounds and I just recently started to try. I have been working on changing my lifestyle for a couple weeks now. I quit drinking soda which was really hard for me to do. I started drinking water and began doing crunches. I have been buying salad stuff and actually starting to enjoy eating healthy foods.

My little boy loves puzzles. Both me and my husband have lost weight on south beach diet and our friends too. My husband lost about 15 lbs in 3-4 weeks and me about 7-10 lbs. in that same amount of time. But the best weight loss for me has been nursing my babies. Good luck.

My husband and I began a weight loss journey together. He started by walking to and from work every day, and walking around his building 2-3 times a day. He puts in about 8-12 miles on any given day.

I try to go and walk with him on his lunch, and I also go to the gym to walk and to do other exercising.

It really is a lifestyle change. You can't just diet for awhile and then expect to go back to your old habits, and still lose weight. We are learning SO much about cutting sugars, eating lots of good fiber, counting calories, and watching fat grams.

I have found two great cookbooks that have some excellent recipes:

The Biggest Loser Cookbook
and
Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook

I've lost 11 pounds in a month, and have about 100 to go to reach my goal. Hubby has lost about 20 pounds in one month....it's all that walking!

I'm just beginning to lose weight. I'm focusing on drinking plenty of water, and eating a real breakfast.

I'm currently down about 20 pounds since the beginning of February. I'm working with a trainer (we meet 3 times every 6 weeks). I'm walking at least 15 minutes at least 5 days a week. I'm also weight training at least 3 days a week. I've revamped my menu so that I'm eating more fruits and veggies, whole grains, and few sweets. Oh...I gave up Pepsi 8 weeks ago. I still have 80+ pounds to go.

Right now I'm doing kickboxing to get back in shape. We try to have a fruit and veggie with our main course so we can fill up on that instead of the meat stuff. =)

I've been losing weight by watching what I eat, drinking a lot of water and cutting out soda, and eating a fruit or a veggie with every meal. I'm also using the Trim Slim Shape system - www.LifeInTheHealthLane.com/trimslimshape.html.

My kids would LOVE that book!!

After six kids I can still fit into some of my clothes from high school.
I drink a lot of water, eat very few processed foods (no poptarts, pizza rolls, frozen dinners, etc....) very little sugar, no white flour, and the kids keep me pretty active. Just recently I have upped my fruit and veggies significantly. If you have time to read my blog I post healthy recipes once a week.

I lost 40 pounds by having my daughter and nursing. I ended up 10 pound lighter than I started. For the most part I've kept it off.

I've lost almost 20 pounds in the last year by nursing, going to Curves, and walking. I think it's the walking that does it. No matter how healthy I eat, if I don't get off my bottom I'll never lose. Now I'm working on losing the last 10-15 lbs and shaping up my tummy...

My favorite cookbook is Healthy Eating for Two and recipes from Cooking Light magazine online.

I have lost over 20 pounds in the last 6 months. 1)I drink lots of water. 2)Limit eating out to only a few times a month and I try to only eat half of my meal. 3)Get more active. I chase my son around, walk, go to the zoo with friends, etc 4) Limit sweets, bread, and junk food to the weekend 5)When I want a snack, I eat a small bowl of dry cereal instead of chips.

Staying fit is really a challenge, and I'm thankful to be at a maintenance stage. However, I did gain 38 lbs. with my pregnancy and lost it all. Things that help me: I don't drink soda or alcohol. I know my weaknesses and I don't keep them around. (I can't handle cookies, cake, candy, ice cream, etc., in the house on a regular basis.) I rarely do fast food. I do snack, a lot, but I eat things that are pretty good for me. And I do find that having just a bit of chocolate each day helps keep my eating in check. :) I try to stay as active as I can with exercise and chasing my preschooler!

I couldn't seem to lose weight no matter how little I ate. So recently I started counting every single calorie, and I was getting several hundred calories a day in coffee creamer. I have switched to a lower calorie one and have lost 3 pounds.

This is a neat book for the kids.
I'm not the best at giving weight loss advice, because I can't ever seem to keep it off. But I do have to say not to give up, or get frustrated. It will all work out.
I know that the Dance Mats that hook up to game systems are a great way to burn calories.

I joined our Wellness center in January to lose weight and then found out that I was pregnant a few weeks later. SO, I haven't lost any weight yet, but I haven't gained any since becoming pregnant. I have become more fit and in shape and parts of my body look a little better even though my weight hasn't changed. When I am there I use the eliptical machine, or walk on the treadmill, lift a few light weights or go swimming...sometimes all of the above! I try to go 3-4 times a week. Hopefully after this baby comes I will be able to really get in shape:)

Well, I'm having difficulty losing the last 13 pounds of baby weight. I went on weight watchers a few years before I had my son to lose weight and I was very successful so I may do that again. I'm nursing so I'm always so hungry and I know that if I start WW I will be STARVING! Running has also always really helped me stay fit.
